Your Complete Roadmap to a Victorian Licence
From your first read of the Road to Solo Driving handbook to your VicRoads Drive Test day, DSNM walks you through every step. Free tutorial classes, hazard test practice, mock drives on real test routes, and a warm-up lesson on test day — all included with our coaching programs.
Your Essential Driver Education Handbook
Published by VicRoads, "The Road to Solo Driving" is the complete official handbook for becoming a safe, licensed Victorian driver. The Learner Permit Test draws every question from these four chapters — so study them all.
The Challenges of Driving
Understand the responsibilities, risks, and mindset every driver needs before getting behind the wheel.
Learning to Drive
Step-by-step skills for new learners — from basic controls to the rules of the road.
Managing Risk
Hazard perception, safe gaps, and defensive driving strategies that keep you out of trouble.
Rules and Responsibilities
Victorian road rules, road signs, and the legal duties of every licence holder.
How to Get Your VicRoads Learner Permit
A clear seven-step roadmap from picking up the handbook to walking out of VicRoads with your Learner Permit in hand.
Read the Official Handbook
Get the latest "Road to Solo Driving" handbook and study every chapter — your Learner Permit Test covers all four parts.
Take the Online Practice Test
Run the practice test as many times as you need. Each round is randomly generated, and wrong answers point you back to the right chapter.
Pick Your Exam Date
Decide when you want to sit the test. Most learners feel ready after a week or two of focused study.
Book the Appointment & Pay
Make your booking online via the VicRoads website. Two fees apply: an appointment booking fee and the test fee itself.
Fill Out the Application Form
Complete the licence/learner permit form — leave it unsigned. You'll sign it in person at VicRoads on test day.
Bring the Right Documents
On test day, bring: your unsigned application form, one Category A ID (passport or birth certificate), one Category B ID (Medicare card, bank statement or student ID) and proof of address if not shown elsewhere.
Sit the Test at VicRoads
Two parts: a 5-minute eyesight test and a computer-based 32-question knowledge test (10–30 minutes). Get 25 of 32 correct (78%) and you pass. Your result stays valid for 12 months.
Get Exposure to Every Driving Situation
The more situations you've handled with an instructor, the more confident you'll be on test day — and for life. Practice in as many of these as you can.
120 Supervised Hours for Drivers Aged 18–21
If you're between 18 and 21, you must complete 120 hours of supervised driving (including 20 hours at night) as part of your driver education program. Every session must be logged and signed by a Full Victorian Licence holder. VicRoads provides the log book.
